Maximo Park

Bowery Ballroom - New York 25 septembre 2005

Maximo Park is one of those bands that I love and listen to on a daily basis but none of my friends ever heard of. It's also one of those bands that only have a handful of songs so that true fans know all the lyrics and some yell them out loud throughout the concert; for better or worse this is me.

The performance was entertaining and fun. Paul Smith's voice and singing is as good on stage as it is on the album; He is a good singer and a good performer. During the concert he jumped, danced even performed an unplanned book reading and a Q&A session when the keyboard broke down. The keyboardist Lukas Wooller on the other hand appeared as a teenage neurotic freak who played air guitar and slammed his keyboard when he needed to produce sounds. No wonder the keyboard went dead just before the band came back on stage! As the band performed, there appeared to be some sort of rivalry between Paul and Lucas. I felt that the band was breaking up as the audience was leaving, which made me even more glad that I went.
